The New York Giants selected running back Cam Skattebo of Arizona State with the 105th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft after he became almost a folk hero in his final college season.
Skattebo had an incredible 2024 season with the Sun Devils—amassing 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground while adding 605 yards and three touchdowns as a receiver.
Skattebo entered New York’s rookie minicamp with a sort of chip on his shoulder - he certainly comes across as confident in his abilities while also noting he's got much to prove here - and is already impressing his general manager Joe Schoen.
“He’s ahead of a lot of rookies, I would say, that typically come in at that position,” Schoen told Kay Adams’ Up And Adams Show. “Hard worker, what you see on film is what he’s been throughout the week in terms of displaying the toughness and competitive nature that shows up on film.”
Skattebo is a highly intelligent player, and the Giants anticipate his transition to the NFL game being a smooth one. Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham cited Skattebo’s football intelligence as a big reason he became an integral leader for the Sun Devils.
Skattebo has displayed the same level of intelligence and instincts during minicamp and has continually caught the eye of Schoen.
“What really stood out through the process with him is his football intelligence,” the GM said. “He’s a super smart kid. He picked up all the tests throughout our process very quickly, and then assimilating in with the veterans this week, he’s just done a really good job picking up the nuances of the offense.”
Skattebo will look to have a strong training camp as he prepares to be a featured weapon in the New York offense.
