Stan Verrett Breaks Silence On His Departure From ESPN

It's the end of an era at the Worldwide Leader as longtime "SportsCenter" host Stan Verrett prepares to say goodbye to ESPN.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Verrett's time at the network will conclude at the end of the summer following 25 years on-air as one of the company's most prominent faces — namely in its Los Angeles studios.

Verrett moved out west to headline ESPN's LA operation back in 2009 alongside friend and partner Neil Everett (who left the network two years ago). Responding to the report on X, Verrett gave his side of things:

"My life is in Los Angeles is now," the veteran anchor said. "Nothing but gratitude for 25 years of living a dream at ESPN. I'm not retiring. Really excited about the future and some incredible opportunities. Stay tuned."

Even though Verrett's time is coming an end with the Disney-owned cable sports channel, he'll reportedly still be a part of the promotion for it's all-new direct-to-consumer streaming service set to debut this fall.

"There are plans for Verrett to anchor the news-and-highlights program in the coming months, and to appear at stops when 'SportsCenter' does a promotion of '50 States in 50 Days'—an event that kicks off on June 27 to promote the company's upcoming direct-to-consumer launch," Front Office Sports reported. "But the network does not plan to renew his contract, sources said."

Clearly ESPN is looking to go in a newer, younger direction with some of its recent decisions. But gone are the days of the network boasting some of the best and most iconic talent in the sports media space.

We'll definitely keep up with whatever Verrett chooses to do next. For now though, he'll hold down his usual seat on the LA "SC" desk.
