State Champion Diver Dead At 18 After Tragic Accident

A spring break vacation turned tragic this week as a car crash killed three high school seniors, including a state diving champion.

According to TMZ, a car crash in Panama City, Florida claimed the life of 18-year-old Maisey O'Donnell. The SUV carrying O'Donnell and three others crashed with a tractor-trailer with the force sending the SUV off the road and into the woods.

O'Donnell, driver Jimmy McIntosh and passenger Hannah Wasserman were all pronounced dead at the scene. O'Donnell was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but later succumbed to her injuries. The fourth student in the car is still in critical condition as of writing. The trailer driver was uninjured.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

O'Donnell was a star diver at Concord-Carlisle High School in Massachusetts. She was a two-time state diving champion and won numerous awards, including All-State honors. On her Instagram, she revealed that she was going to be attending Williams College this coming fall.

Speaking to TMZ, O'Donnell's coach Joe Chirico called it "a tragedy" and highlighted how kids and even fellow divers looked up to her.

"It's a tragedy," Chirico said. "The little kids looked up to her; the other divers looked up to her. It's a tragedy that somebody at the top of their game, going to the best academic school, one of the best divers in the nation, was cut so short."

School officials on Wednesday also reflected on the tragedy and called on everyone's support as the fourth student continues to heal.

“The loss of Jimmy, Hannah, and Maisey is a profound tragedy, and their memory will forever be etched in our hearts,” school officials said in an email to the community. “Please keep our student who is in critical condition in your thoughts and heart as she continues to heal.”
