The Pittsburgh Steelers saw their season slowly implode over the final month of the season, losing the final four regular-season games before dropping a wild-card matchup with rival Baltimore Ravens.
The Ravens ran over and through the Pittsburgh defense in a 28-14 win on Saturday, advancing to the divisional round and sending the Steelers to a long offseason with some difficult decisions. Many expect the Steelers to move on from veteran Russell Wilson, who struggled down the final stretch of the season.
The team could turn to the NFL draft for one quarterback option. Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News suggested the Steelers could land Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, who was once seen as the top prospect of the upcoming class before being derailed by injuries and on-the-field struggles.
"The draft will also share even weight as a path for the Steelers, and this Texas College Football Playoff QB would make a lot of sense for them," Iyer wrote. "Ewers, with his arm, natural downfield passing accuracy and plus athleticism, can execute Arthur Smith's offense well and fit with their current playmakers as they also upgrade offensive skill in the backfield and receiving corps."
Iyer noted that the Steelers used a first-round pick on quarterback Kenny Pickett in 2022, a move that didn't work out but did signal the team's willingness to use high draft picks on quarterbacks with potential.
If the Steelers do aim to replace Wilson with Ewers, it may not require too high of a draft pick. There are some varying opinions on where Ewers might land in the NFL draft, with some scouts putting him outside the top 100 prospects.
