The college football world is in for a treat this weekend when the Ohio State Buckeyes open their season at home against the No. 1 Texas Longhorns.
Ohio State will roll out Julian Sayin at quarterback, while Arch Manning will lead the Longhorns. Both teams are breaking in new starters under center and replacing a significant amount of production from last season.
For Texas, this is a major road test to kick off the year. Credit to both programs for sticking with a true home-and-home series rather than opting for a neutral-site matchup.
“I love them,” Sarkisian said recently of road games. “I’ve never been to The Shoe, you know, I’d never been to Michigan last year, I’ve been to Kyle Field one time the year before that, obviously I spent time in Tuscaloosa. But I love it. I think it’s cool for college football. I kind of enjoy people telling me how terrible I am and stuff, you know, it kind of fuels my fire a little bit. No, but it should be a great environment. I’m looking forward to it.”

Sarkisian is clearly excited for his first trip to Ohio Stadium. This will also mark Texas’s first visit to Columbus since 2005. Ohio State traveled to Austin the following year, and of course, the two programs squared off again in last season’s Cotton Bowl.
While this matchup feels tailor-made for a primetime stage, kickoff is set for noon due to Fox’s broadcast rights. Still, Ohio State has some special plans for the game-day environment, and a sellout crowd is guaranteed. It will be a tough setting for Manning as he begins his run as Texas’s starting quarterback.
A Week 1 matchup won’t make or break either program, but it will serve as an important early measuring stick for two of college football’s biggest contenders.
