Fans are certainly up in arms off the back of newly released sparring footage of veteran ex-UFC kingpin Daniel Cormier.
A dominant force at the light heavyweight limit during his run in the UFC, Daniel Cormier also scooped the heavyweight crown before his 2020 retirement as part of a Hall of Fame career in the sport.
And during his time away from the cage, Cormier has continued to train the new crop of fighters and amateur wrestlers at his academy in Gilroy, California.
But don’t expect Cormier to strap the gloves on anymore, despite the fact many fans believe he would take to MMA like a duck to water still.
A fan-favorite fighter during his memorable tenure in the UFC, Cormier would enjoy Strikeforce success with a Grand Prix victory before ever entering the Octagon.
And utilizing his wrestling background, former Olympic star and US Team captain Cormier seems to have those exact skills as sharp as ever in new sparring footage.

Duking it out with a younger sparring partner, Cormier clinched and tripped effortlessly for numerous takedowns, as well as mixing in some boxing on the feet to great success.
Largely full of praise for the Lafayette star’s ability to this day, numerous fans gushed over Cormier’s display, with one writing, “Dude, ‘DC’ can still move pretty quick.”

A second pointed to the recent exchange between newly minted middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev and Cormier — with the Chechen picking him up during a cordial confrontation, posting, “Khamzat really lit a fire inside of this man after picking him up.”
A third user even went as far as to claim Cormier would still likely hang with the current heavyweight division, posting, “I believe DC still can beat 5 out of top 10 current heavyweights.”
Boldly, a fourth commenter claimed that if Cormier dedicated himself to full-time training for just six months, he would beat current heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, writing, “If DC trained for 6 months, he would beat Aspinall.”
As mentioned, Cormier successfully utilized his gleaming amateur wrestling background to great success during his dual-weight title run in the UFC.
Taken down on just eight occasions during that run, Cormier was put on the seat of his pants by Stipe Miocic , as well as title challengers Anthony Johnson and Alexander Gustafsson, and another infamous foe.
During their first of two fights, Cormier’s historic rival Jon Jones put the Olympian on the mat on an impressive three separate occasions — becoming the first to do so in the Louisianan’s career in combat sports.
