Arsenal have finished second in the Premier League standings three straight seasons, and they are looking to change that for the better.

The club is closing in on a deal to acquire Sporting CP’s prolific striker Viktor Gyökeres, with transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reporting on the matter.

Although a final agreement hasn’t been made between both sides, negotiations are advanced, and Gyökeres is holding out for a move to Arsenal.

Gyökeres, who, according to reports, has agreed to a five-year contract with Arsenal until 2030, is pushing for the move by refusing to return to Sporting’s pre-season training, emphasizing his desire to join the Gunners exclusively.

Arsenal's most recent offer is €65 million plus €15 million in add-ons, while Sporting is requesting a price of over €80 million. The Swedish striker even gave up €2 million in salary to make the transaction possible.

On the pitch, there’s no denying the talent that is Gyökeres. He brings a dynamic skill set, known for his clinical finishing, physicality, and a unique ability to link play in the final third.

His adaptability makes him ideal for Mikel Arteta's tactical setup since he’s able to drop deep or take advantage of openings behind defenses. His impressive work rate and aerial skill further prove how he has shaped into a modern striker.

Coming from Sweden, Gyökeres rose to stardom with Coventry City in England’s Championship before he moved on to Sporting CP, where he has become an international sensation. He scored an abnormal 54 goals in 52 matches during the 2024-2025 season and added 13 assists to go along with it.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Gyökeres makes sense, as it signals their intent to bolster their attack. And for Gyökeres, he’s looking for a move that can change his life, making this potential transfer almost a perfect match.
