This one hurts for the TCU Horned Frogs. TCU has lost sophomore David Punch to the Texas Longhorns in the transfer portal, as first reported by On3. Punch was an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 selection and was a huge part of TCU punching a ticket back to the NCAA Tournament this past season.
The 6’7” sophomore averaged 14.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game during the 2026-27 season. Punch made huge strides from his freshman season, when he averaged just over six points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game.
The Horned Frogs were back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2024. They reached the second round for the first time since 2023 after they beat Ohio State 66-64, but then lost to Duke in the second round 81-58.
Jamie Dixon is trying to keep this core of guys together after showing great improvement this season, but in the transfer portal and NIL era, it clearly is going to be difficult for Dixon to do that at TCU. Dixon is heading into his 11th season at his alma mater and has a 199-138 record. He has reached five NCAA Tournaments at TCU, but has yet to get out of the opening weekend.
