Gary Patterson served as the TCU Horned Frogs' head football coach from 2000-21, notching a 181-79 overall record as the winningest coach in program history.

On Wednesday, TCU announced Patterson as one of nine inductees joining the TCU Athletics Hall of Fame through the 2025 class.

"Welcome to the TCU Athletics Hall of Fame, Coach Patterson! Coach Patterson spent 24 years as a TCU coach for the football team, setting the TCU all-time coaching record with 181 wins. Patterson won a total of 22 national coach of the year honors and guided the Horned Frogs to six conference championships, while mentoring 263 all-conference selections, 21 first team All-Americans and 55 NFL Draft picks," the football program wrote on X.

This year's class features two coaches and seven former student-athletes:

  • Gary Patterson (Football)
  • Richard Sybesma (Swim and Dive)
  • Julien Brun (‘15, Men’s Golf)
  • Matt Carpenter (‘09, Baseball)
  • Whitney (Gipson) Bright (‘12, Track and Field)
  • Preston Morrison (‘15, Baseball)
  • Glen Norris (‘78, Track and Field)
  • Charles Silmon (‘14, Track and Field)
  • Jason Verrett (‘13, Football)

Patterson resigned from his position with the Horned Frogs after a 3-5 start to the 2021 college football season. He then spent time as a special assistant to Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian in 2022 and served as a consultant for Baylor before the start of the 2024 season.

"The story of Gary Patterson and the rise in the fortunes of the TCU football program over the last 20 years is clearly one of the most remarkable in the history of college football. We are grateful to Gary and Kelsey Patterson and appreciate everything they have meant to TCU and the Fort Worth community," former athletic director Jeremiah Donati said in a statement at the time of Patterson's departure in 2021. "Under his leadership, TCU has become a nationally recognized brand name in football and in collegiate athletics."
