TCU Wins First Big 12 Regular Season Basketball Championship

The title showcases one of the biggest turnaround in college basketball history after the Frogs finished dead last in the conference two seasons ago with an 8-23 overall record and 1-17 in Big 12 play.

TCU now becomes just the second team in Big 12 history to win the regular-season championship within two seasons of finishing last.

The championship is perhaps more significant since it beat Baylor to get here. Both teams entered Sunday's contest with a chance to win the conference crown with a victory over the other - another Big 12 first. Baylor has won 13 of the last 19 conference regular season championships.

Entering this season, Tech (28-3, 16-2 Big 12) was carrying a 35-year losing streak to the Bears. But the Frogs became just the third team in the past 11 seasons to sweep Baylor in the regular season.

Sedona Prince scored 16 points and pulled down 19 rebounds and Hailey Van Lith added 14 points as the Frogs finished their best season ever in just Mark Campbell's second season at the helm.

Aaronette Vonleh scored 17 and had 10 boards for Baylor (25-6, 15-3 Big 12) as its nine-game winning streak was snapped as it scored its lowest scoring total of the year.

Baylor's Yaya Fielder also scored 17 but missed a 3-pointer as with six seconds left in the game.

The Frogs won nine more conference games than last season, matching the Sun Belt Conference's Arkansas State Red Wolves for the largest increase this year.

Up next for both teams is the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City. TCU has a double bye and won't play until the quarterfinal game on Friday.
