The Texas Longhorns’ football team is on a recruiting roll.

5-star running back recruit Derrek Cooper on Sunday announced his college commitment, and he chose Texas. Cooper, who is from Hollywood, Fla., made his announcement while in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

“Texas, they’re known as RBU and have put 5 RBs into the league in 3 years,” Cooper said when announcing his choice.

Cooper probably was also pretty pleased with whatever the Longhorns offered him in NIL money. He chose Texas over Georgia, Miami, and Florida State.

247 Sports’ composite rankings have Cooper listed as a 5-star recruit, the No. 2 player in Florida, and the No. 29 player nationally. Cooper is listed at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds and has a track background.

For the class of 2026, Texas now has the No. 1 QB, No. 1 LB, No. 1 DL, and Cooper.
