
Texas Longhorn guard Tre Johnsons has continued to prove that he is one of the best scorers in the nation, and it seems that his electrifying play has earned him another accolade.
Johnson was named the SEC Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week for an astounding fourth time, the team announced.
He is coming off a monster week for the (16-10 and 5-8) Longhorns, in which he averaged 28.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while shooting 46.5% from the field. He's lightened the scoreboard up all season, leading the SEC in scoring with 19.8 points per game.
Johnson was superb in the Longhorn's match up against Alabama, dropping a game-high 24 points on 9-17 shooting and 4-8 from beyond the arc. He continued his blistering hot streak, posting 32 points against the Kentucky Wildcats in their thrilling 82-78 victory.
This marks the fourth time Johnson has won SEC Freshman of the week honors, earning it back on Nov 11, 28h and Feb 3. With his recent performances it appears that he is heating up at the right time.
Johnson and the Longhorns,are among the four SEC teams bidding for a spot to play in the NCAA Tournament bubble.
Given their remaining games on the schedule, all against divisional rival, they can play themselves into the field thanks in large part to Johnson's stellar play.
Next up Johnson and the Longhorns would need to keep their momentum going as they hit road for a tough road matchup against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday, Feb 22.
