Texas Predicted to Lose Elite 5-Star Playmaker to SEC Powerhouse

The Texas Longhorns have put together a very impressive 2026 recruiting class, already sporting two five-star players: quarterback Dia Bell and EDGE Richard Wesley.

Now, they're in the mix to land even more, as they, along with the Georgia Bulldogs and the Florida Gators, were named the three finalists to land tight end Kaiden Prothro out of Bowdon, Georgia.

Unfortunately for Texas, though, with Prothro set to announce his decision on Saturday, things aren't looking too good, as On3's Adam Gorney logged an expert prediction on Tuesday for the tight end to land with the Bulldogs.

That outcome would pose a huge win for Georgia, as they have already landed multiple tight end recruits, including four-star Brayden Fogle and four-star Lincoln Keyes.

Prothro would certainly be the biggest addition at the position, though, with On3 Industry Rankings having him as a five-star recruit, the No. 2 tight end, the No. 4 player in Georgia and the No. 29 player in the nation.

Last season, he was named a MaxPreps Junior All-American after racking up 56 receptions, 1,203 yards and 22 touchdowns for the Bowdon Red Devils while also becoming Class A Division I state champions.

Georgia has certainly done their due diligence when it comes to Prothro as well, bringing him in for a total of seven visits, including an official one on May 30.

If this prediction becomes a reality, Texas will have to make pushes for other tight ends, as the On3 recruiting prediction machine gives them the best percentage to land three-star Keawe Browne (99.5%).
