The 2025 Women’s College World Series (WCWS) championship series is set to feature an all-Texas showdown as the Texas Longhorns and Texas Tech Red Raiders vie for their first national title. The best-of-three series begins Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, with all games broadcast on ESPN.

How They Got Here

Texas Longhorns (54–11)
The Longhorns secured their third appearance in the WCWS finals in four years by defeating Tennessee 2–0 in the semifinals. Pitchers Mac Morgan and Teagan Kavan combined for a three-hit shutout, while Katie Stewart’s solo home run provided the offensive spark. Texas sent Oklahoma to the loser’s bracket on Saturday with a 4–2 victory, marking their first WCWS win over the Sooners.

Texas Tech Red Raiders (53–12)
In their first WCWS appearance, the Red Raiders made a statement by eliminating four-time defending champion Oklahoma with a 3–2 walk-off win. NiJaree Canady, the 2024 USA Softball Player of the Year, pitched a complete game, and Lauren Allred’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh secured the victory.

Key Players to Watch

  • Katie Stewart (C): Her timely hitting, including a crucial home run against Tennessee, has been pivotal.
  • Ashton Maloney (OF): Just two hits shy of tying the school’s single-season record of 92 hits.

Texas Tech Red Raiders

Season Series Recap

The two teams met earlier this season, with Texas edging out Texas Tech 2–1 in extra innings, thanks to a Tech fielding error. Texas holds a 62–12 all-time advantage over Texas Tech.

What’s at Stake

Both programs are seeking their first national championship. Texas aims to capitalize on its recent WCWS experience, while Texas Tech looks to continue its Canady-driven Cinderella run under first-year head coach Gerry Glasco.
