Usually when you break up with someone, you want to try and get over that person as soon as possible. That is also true with coaching, as after someone is fired, the last thing a school needs is to have that person lingering around. Penn State won’t have that luxury tomorrow as it was announced this morning that James Franklin will be sharing his thoughts on live television.
Not only is Franklin being interviewed during College GameDay tomorrow morning, but he will also be live on set in Athens, Ga. While this is a no brainer interview for ESPN as it will draw a ton of interest, when it comes to Franklin’s side of things, what is he getting out of it?
ESPN may have been the one to reach out to Franklin to see if he had any interest in doing an interview, but it is more likely that Franklin was the one who did the reaching out. And to do it live on set, instead of via telephone or having it pre-taped, is the cherry on top of the sundae.
But this is a sundae that Penn State didn’t need. Chances are that Franklin will be cordial and kind towards Penn State, as doing the opposite wouldn’t exactly be a good resume builder for someone who is looking for a job. However, whatever he says will be dissected with a brain surgeon’s precision tomorrow morning. That is certain.
Personally, I know I’ll be watching and dissecting.
