The 2025 NCAA Division I men’s college soccer season got off to a wild start as several preseason Top 25 teams stumbled out of the gate.

Seven ranked teams lost on opening night, with five of those defeats coming at the hands of unranked opponents.

The Top 25 went 10–7–5 overall, with five draws — two of those between ranked teams.

Opening Night Results

Vermont — Beat Sacred Heart 2–0 at home
Denver — Beat #25 Washington 2–0 at home.
Wake Forest — Lost to Maryland 0–1 at home (postponed).
Pittsburgh — Beat Quinnipiac 1–0 at home.
SMU — Tied #22 UMKC 2–2 at home.
Clemson — Tied #12 Indiana 2–2 on the road.
Georgetown — Lost to High Point 2–1 on the road.
Ohio State — Lost to Virginia Tech 1–0 on the road.
Stanford — Beat Sacramento State 5–1 at home.
West Virginia — Beat Manhattan 5–2 at home.

Notable Losses

Georgetown: Lost 1–2 to High Point on the road.
Ohio State: Lost 0–1 to Virginia Tech on the road.
Western Michigan: Lost 1–2 to Kentucky at home.
UCLA: Shut out 0–2 by UC Irvine on the road.
Washington: Lost 0–2 to #3 Denver on the road

You can watch most of the 2025 NCAA men’s soccer season on ESPN+, which is streaming over 1,090 matches across 17 conferences, regular season and conference championships.
