Ben Ahmed, a four-star center prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, has decommitted from the Miami Hurricanes and will reopen his recruitment, according to a report from Joe Tipton.
Ahmed took an official visit to Miami back on Oct. 4 and committed six days later, signing a letter of intent on Nov. 13.
The 6'9, 300 pound big man from Putnam, CT is the No. 104 ranked prospect and No. 16 ranked center in the 2025 recruiting class at 247Sports, and comes in at No. 95 and No. 15 among centers according to the site's composite rankings.
On3 has a more favorable opinion of the Putnam Science Academy product, ranking him No. 74 overall and No. 7 among centers.
Although Miami is the only school Ahmed visited before committing, the Nigerian did have offers from Georgia Tech, Iowa, Rutgers, Georgetown, Xavier, and Cal.
Ahmed's massive frame and 7'3 wingspan make him nearly immovable in the lane, and while he has mobility limitations that will cap his ceiling, he has a high floor as a defensive anchor and rebounder and should thrive in a college offense that funnels the ball down low on the block.
Miami now has just one player committed in the 2025 class, four-star shooting guard Matthew Able (Fort Lauderdale, FL) who is No. 29 in the class at 247Sports.
With coach Jim Larranaga's midseason retirement, the 'Canes may struggle to woo any other recruits until a new coach is hired, which could set this program back even further as they continue to struggle this season.

Over the weekend, the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation paid tribute to the Michigan football program with a pair of commemorations honoring its historic contributions to one of college football's greatest traditions. The foundation unveiled a bronze statue celebrating the inaugural 1902 Rose Bowl—the first postseason game in college football history—between Michigan and Stanford. The Wolverines dominated that contest, winning 49-0 under legendary head coach Fielding Yost. Originally called the "Tournament East-West football game," the matchup would later become known as simply the Rose Bowl game, launching a tradition that continues to this day. That 1901 Michigan team finished the season undefeated at 11-0 and was crowned national champion. In addition to the statue, a commemorative marker was also unveiled in honor of former Michigan head coach Bo Schembechler. The marker highlights Schembechler's lasting impact on the Rose Bowl and the Michigan football legacy. During his 21 seasons at the helm, Schembechler led the Wolverines to a record 10 Rose Bowl appearances. He earned his first Rose Bowl victory on January 1, 1981, defeating Washington, and added his next in 1989 with a 22-14 win over USC. He was inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 1993. The Rose Bowl remains one of the most storied venues in college football, home to countless legendary moments. Michigan's role in that legacy is both foundational and enduring. Now, as fans make their annual trip to Pasadena for the "Granddaddy of them all," they'll be reminded of the Wolverines' influence on one of the sport's most iconic stages.
It's the Browns. When the Cleveland Browns drafted Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders this April, they had a total of five quarterbacks on their roster between their incoming rookies, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and the injured Deshaun Watson. And despite the kind of confusing nature of their stockpiling so many QBs, it sounds like the team could double-down on the the decision by the time the regular season kicks off. According to The Athletic's Zac Jackson, "the Browns absolutely might keep all four quarterbacks" heading into Cleveland's season opener. While also adding, "No, Shedeur Sanders is not going to start Week 1 for the Browns. But he's put a lot of pressure on his coaches and fellow QBs headed into this week — the biggest week of training camp as the Browns head to Philly." Fans reacted to the reporter's update on X: "At this point it's not even a QB room anymore. It's a pitching rotation now," a user said. "One as a starter, One as a backup, One to hold on field goals, And one listed as a wide receiver for tax purposes," another commented. "[Shedeur Sanders] should be developed and shouldn't be thrown out there week 1 but he should be considered to be put over Gabriel and Pickett," a fan pointed out. "While also finally getting meaningful reps with the 1's." "I'm a Shedeur fan who wants Flacco to start with Shedeur at QB2," another person replied. "Sitting behind a veteran QB can be very valuable, and you know he'd be ready if he had to come off the bench. Just my .02." "This isn't unprecedented," another user posted. "The Patriots kept 4 QBs in the 2000 season. Worked out ok for them. Not saying there's a Brady in their QB room. But if they have 4 guys who they think are NFL worthy (even if none are QB1 right now), they can make it work." The Browns have been bitten by the injury bug thus far in camp with Pickett and Gabriel both dealing with ailments this preseason — opening up a window for Shedeur Sanders to earn his way up the depth chart. Sanders played well in Friday night's debut with a 14-of-23 performance for 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the way to a 30-10 win over Carolina. But head coach Kevin Stefanski says the team in "evaluation mode" when it comes to their QBs.
The New York Mets are trending in the wrong direction, and their slide continued on Sunday with what might have been their worst loss of the season. The Mets not only were on the losing end of a 7-6 walk-off loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, they blew a 5-0 lead in the process and extended their losing streak to seven consecutive games. Even worse, they have lost 11 out of their past 12 games during a time where the Philadelphia Phillies are starting to pull away in the National League East race. The biggest issue for the Mets for most of this slump has been an offense that has gone ice cold. But that wasn't necessarily the problem on Sunday as they pushed six runs across the plate. The problem on Sunday was a rough start for Sean Manaea (four earned runs in four innings) and a bullpen that was unable to hold on to a late lead. Trade-deadline addition Ryan Helsley allowed the tying run in the bottom of the eighth inning when he allowed an RBI single to Joey Ortiz. That set the stage for star closer Edwin Diaz to serve up a walk-off home run to Isaac Collins. The Mets are still holding a playoff spot in the National League, but it is getting more uncomfortable by the day. After Sunday's games they are in the third and final wild-card spot in the National League, and only have 1.5 games of cushion between them and the Cincinnati Reds. The Mets had sky-high expectations this season after making the playoffs a year ago and then adding Juan Soto in free agency. While Soto's bat has ended up being everything the Mets hoped it would be, the rest of the offense has struggled in the heat of the summer and now the pressure is only going to keep mounting if they do not get out of this slump soon. With nine of their next 12 games coming against the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals — two of the worst teams in the National League — there is at least an opportunity for them to maybe get back on track. They need to, because after that stretch they have a three-game home series against the Phillies that could go a long way toward determining the path of their season.
The Philadelphia Eagles got a major injury scare during Sunday's open practice at Lincoln Financial Field when Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson went down with a leg injury and had to be carted off to the locker room. Dickerson was reportedly unable to put any weight on his leg. Dickerson, a second-round pick (No. 37 overall) by the team in 2021 has been a starter for the Eagles over the first four years of his career and developed into one of the best offensive linemen in football. He has been named to the Pro Bowl team in each of the past three seasons and is a key cog on the Eagles' line. The Eagles' O-line is one of the team's biggest strengths and a big part of its identity, and Dickerson has taken over as one of the top leaders on that group. The Eagles are already dealing with some depth issues on the interior of their line after backup Kenyon Green had to be carted off the field in their opening preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. If Dickerson has to miss any significant time that would be a huge blow to the Eagles' offense and their running game. But it's still very early in the process and the Eagles will almost certainly know more by Monday. The Eagles were the second-leading rushing team in the NFL during the 2024 season, averaging 179 yards per game. Running back Saquon Barkley ran for over 2,000 yards as part of their season, with the offensive line playing a huge role in both of those achievements.
