A Sheriff’s Deputy has reportedly been arrested following a shocking brawl at a travel baseball game in Starkville, Mississippi.
The deputy, a coach for Starkville’s 14U sports performance center select team, got into it with the umpire. And the whole thing was caught on camera.
Players were walking off the field after the final game of a Grand Slam tournament when the ump, Jeff Akins, shoved Darrell Holley in the chest. Holley, a lieutenant, immediately shoved him back.
Akins then punched the coach in the face.
Holley’s son, a player on his team, landed two punches on the umpire’s head before spectators pushed him away. The coach punched Akins, knocking him to the ground, and then threw more punches.
They both got floored after Akins got up. Holley’s son was able to get multiple blows in before the fight was broken up.
Holley is a deputy for the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office; it hardly helped his case.
According to Starkville Police Department public information officer Brandon Lovelady, both men have been charged with misdemeanor fighting not in self-defense. They have also been banned from attending all future Grand Slam tournaments, per the New York Post.
A video surfaced on social media on Monday morning, showing the concerning incident.
“This happened at a 14 year old travel ball game in Starkville yesterday between a coach and an umpire,” the caption read. “What are some of you adults doing? What kind of example are you setting for kids? Pathetic and embarrassing by everyone involved. Grow up.”

Lovelady says an investigation is ongoing.
The authorities have reviewed the footage they received from Crand Slam director Mike Narmour.
Narmour was not at the tourney when the fight started and does not know what sparked it. However, he claims it was “stupidity all the way around.”
