Sun Devil fans, mark your calendars – with a question mark. Arizona State’s highly anticipated 2026 home opener against Bowling Green has been unexpectedly canceled, leaving fans wondering what’s next for the season. The game, originally slated for Sept. 5, has been scrapped, leaving a void in the schedule and raising eyebrows across the Valley.

Bowling Green announced on Friday that it would cancel its future football game against Arizona State, which is scheduled for next season. The game was originally supposed to be ASU’s home opener in 2026 on Sept. 5th.

However, the Falcons stated in a press release that the matchup was forgone to facilitate the move of a previously scheduled home game against Saint Francis U on Sept. 12, 2026, to a week earlier. The change is because Bowling Green will match up against Nebraska on that Sept 12th date and needed to make room for the game.

Bowling Green had this to say in the press release:

“Bowling Green announced today a future football matchup with Nebraska, set for Sept. 12, 2026, at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.

To accommodate the meeting with the Huskers, BGSU’s 2026 home contest against Saint Francis has been moved to Sept. 5, 2026, at Doyt Perry Stadium. Additionally, BGSU’s previously scheduled 2026 game (Sept. 5) against Arizona State has been mutually dropped to facilitate the Saint Francis game shift and will not be rescheduled.”

ASU’s 2026 season opener will be on Sept. 12th at Kyle Field facing off against the Texas A&M Aggies, while its home opener will be the following week facing the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.
