Former World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz is no stranger to making history, and the Spanish star will add another accolade to his resume as he has been selected to participate at the first ever tennis event to be held at the ballpark of American baseball team, the Miami Marlins.
The Miami Invitational is a one-day tennis exhibition event that will take place on December 8, 2025 at loanDepot park. The invitational will also feature rising ATP star Joao Fonseca, who has already been labeled as a potential Grand Slam champion.
The WTA will have some representation, as two-time Grand Slam runner-up Amanda Anisimova has been confirmed for the event. Joining her American colleague is 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu, who has been enjoying a resurgence of sorts on the WTA tour this season.
The invitational will include two singles matches, each best-of-three sets with a 10-point tiebreaker deciding a third set. Tennis fans will be treated to some high quality tennis as Alcaraz takes on Fonseca for the first time ever, while Anisimova squares off against Raducanu.
The WTA World No.4 shocked fans by reaching two consecutive Grand Slam finals this season. Anisimova defeated World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka at the Wimbledon semifinals to reach her maiden Grand Slam final, where she lost to Iga Swiatek.
Subsequently, the American would reach her second straight major final at the US Open, this time defeating Swiatek en route to the final match. However, she would fall to Sabalenka in straight sets.
"To feature two of the brightest women´s stars in Anisimova and Raducanu alongside the first ever meeting between Alcaraz and Fonseca should prove to be an electric night for tennis fans," said Molly Pendleton, a senior vice president at Unified Events, which is partnering with loanDepot Park for the event.
