It feels like the early 2000s in Los Angeles as the USC Trojans are currently dominating the recruiting space.
Following the hiring of Notre Dame's Chad Bowden as the program's general manager, the Trojans have received an injection of energy and success on the trail. As it stands right now, the Trojans have the No. 1 class across all four major recruiting services consisting of 247Sports, On3, Rivals and ESPN.
With 27 players already committed, 16 of them blue-chip recruits, it'll be difficult for any team across the country to overthrow them. However, one program that is certainly making a push to do so is the Georgia Bulldogs.
After landing five-star quarterback Jared Curtis, who ranks as the No. 1 gunslinger in the country, On3's Steve Wiltfong reported that Georgia's No. 7 class is expected to go on a bit of a run soon. They are in the mix for the No. 1 overall recruit and offensive tackle, Jackson Cantwell. They will also be pushing for the No. 8 overall recruit and five-star linebacker, Tyler Atkinson.
If Georgia were to land both of them, it would give them the most five-star commits in the country. In addition to that possibility, it is also worth noting that they have a top 10 recruiting class as of Wednesday with just eight total commits, a mark that will surely.
Over the past three years, the Bulldogs have taken in an average of 27.6 recruits per class, which indicates they are far from done. While holding onto the top spot may be good for morale, keeping their large class intact should be more of a priority for the Trojans. With classes that are put together this early, it isn't uncommon for the sharks to circle with offers to committed players.
Regardless of what happens, it'll be interesting to see how these rankings look once signing day rolls around.
