USC Football: Reggie Bush Won't Allow His Jersey To Be Retired By Trojans
USA TODAY Sports

Your USC Trojans still have not retired former college football running back Reggie Bush's No. 5, primarily because Bush does not want his jersey retired until he gets his Heisman Trophy back.

Bush won the Heisman Trophy, for his incredible 2005 season with USC. However, reports came about a year later that Bush had violated NCAA rules by receiving gifts. After an investigation, the NCAA imposed sanctions on USC for not regulating Bush. Bush then voluntarily gave up his Heisman Trophy before the Heisman Trophy Trust could try and take it away from him.

Now that NIL is legal in the NCAA, Bush is trying to get the trophy he deserves back, along with his USC records.

During his 2005 Heisman Trophy winning campaign, Bush rushed for an incredible 1,740 yards and 16 touchdowns, while averaging 8.7 yards per carry. Bush also caught 37 receptions for 478 yards and two touchdowns and additionally served as a punt and kick returner. His efforts also won him the Doak Walker award, the Walter Camp award and was the Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year.

Bush also helped lead the Trojans on a 34-game win streak and two national championship titles. He was finally inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame last December

In August, Bush has filed a defamation lawsuit against the NCAA with the goal of getting his trophy back.

When Bush is ready, USC is ready to celebrate him and retire his jersey. USC athletic director Jennifer Cohen said last week, "To [USC], Reggie Bush is a Heisman winner. Any and all ways we can honor and recognize that for him, that are appropriate , we will do."

This likely won't happen until Bush gets his trophy back, but the positive is he has the support of his university.
