Missouri State may not have been the stiffest competition of Week 1 College Football action, but the USC Trojans absolutely dismantled them and proved that they are a different and more talented team this year.
It wasn’t completely flawless, but it’s hard to find too many mistakes in a 73-13 victory.
The Trojans entered the season unranked. Those who follow me know my stance on preseason rankings (I think they are pointless, and also have unfortunate consequences). USC entering the season unranked ultimately should not matter if they do what they need to do throughout the season; however, it is a good barometer to demonstrate where they fall in line with the other top programs.
The latest US LBM Coaches Poll just dropped (new AP Poll should be dropping soon), and the disrespect for the USC Trojans continues as they did not crack the Top 25. In fact, they dropped from 29th to 31st.
Again, these rankings do not matter all that much, but it is shocking that a team that put up 73 points and rested just about every single starter after the 2nd quarter would fall two spots.

As it currently stands, they are set to play 4 teams that are currently ranked in the Coaches’ Top 25.
If the Trojans take care of business and win the games they are supposed to, the rest will take care of itself, and USC will have a very successful season.
It is tough to project the season off of a game against an overwhelmed team in Missouri State. But a lot of positives came out of it. You can read all about those in my ‘What We Learned‘ article I posted after the game.
For now, USC will need to keep proving its growth to itself on the field.
