The USC Trojans are already in Champaign, Illinois, preparing for their 9:00 AM Saturday game against the Fighting Illini, but the momentum from last weekend’s recruiting visits is still ringing loud.
Over 40 recruits overtook the Coliseum to watch the Trojans knock off Michigan State in an electric late-kick atmosphere. One of those recruits was elite 4-star EDGE KJ Green.
Green took his first visit to USC back in June, but came back to Los Angeles and took in the game day experience last Saturday.
He spoke with WeAreSC about his experience at the Coliseum.
“The USC game day presentation was something else. From the moment we pulled into campus, everything just felt elevated. I had my own tour guide for the whole weekend, which made it more personal and gave me a chance to really see everything in detail. They showed me the stadium, locker rooms, and training facility, all of it was top of the line. They also had a recruit welcome event where staff and some current players greeted us and gave us a look at how they prepare behind the scenes. There was food, lounges, places where you could relax and talk with other recruits.”

This is not the first recruit to talk about the elevated experience at USC, and certainly will not be the last. Even before Chad Bowden took over as general manager, the USC Trojans’ recruiting staff always did a top-notch job of making visits very special.
Now with Bowden at the helm, they have taken it up a level and have become the epicenter of College Football Recruiting.
Green continued, “And once the game day really started, the crowd, the band, the pageantry, the whole energy walking in, you could feel USC pride heavy in the air.
“I met with Coach Nua, Coach Henny, Coach Lynn, and Coach Ryan. They were all super down-to-earth but straight up about expectations.
“Coach Nua talked about their vision for the defensive line and how they want you to grow, not just as a player, but as a person.
“Coach Henny focused on technique and development, showing how they build guys up physically and use their facilities to get you where you want to be.
“Coach Lynn spoke about the defense being one of the main pillars and how they want aggressive and smart players who can be versatile and make plays.
“Coach Ryan emphasized the culture and how once you’re part of USC, they take care of you on and off the field with academics, support, and preparing you for life after football.”
First of all, what an impressive and detailed answer from a high school student. You can tell he really took to heart what USC did over the weekend, and was clearly excited and impressed with the experience.
However, closing Green is not going to be easy for USC. Not only is he highly sought after, but he is from Georgia, deep in SEC country. While the USC Trojans have had good success recruiting in Georgia, we also know that they have missed out on prospects from there in the past.
Green is currently the 10th-ranked EDGE in the country and the 74th-ranked overall player, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. 247 Sports ranks him the highest, listing him as the 27th overall player and the 5th-ranked EDGE.
Rivals’ recruiting prediction machine currently has South Carolina in the lead with a 22.2% chance of landing him. USC sits with a 5.7% chance, but this visit is sure to bump that number up in the future.
The USC Trojans will aim to get Green back for a 3rd visit in the near future.
