After a successful trip down to Atlanta, where the Hoos earned a ranked series win against Georgia Tech, Virginia earned back-to-back midweek wins over VCU and Navy to kick off the Cavaliers' seven-game homestand. The two wins bring Virginia to 26-16 on the season as the Cavs continue to build their RPI in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA tournament.
April 29th - Virginia vs. VCU
Virginia hosted in-state foe VCU to start the homestand, with Eric Becker going yard to give the Hoos an early lead. The home run was Becker's third game with a home run, joining Henry Godbout as the only two Hoos to achieve that statistic this season.
The Rams fired back with two runs to steal the lead midway through the second inning. The runs came on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single.
Virginia rattled off seven runs in response to establish a firm 9-2 lead.
Aidan Teel opened up the scoring in the fourth inning with a crushing shot to right field to drive home two runs. Soon after, Henry Godbout drilled a three-run homer to close out the 4th inning that saw the Cavs score six runs to take an 8-2 lead.
Despite the large advantage, the Rams refused to back down, with Casey Kleinman hitting a three-run home run to cut the lead to three. In the bottom of the seventh, James Nunnallee drilled a hit to the right side to bring home Godbout.
The Rams refused to back down with two runs in the 8th before another run in the ninth, but the comeback fell short, allowing the Hoos to clinch a 9-8 victory.

April 30th - Virginia vs. Navy
After a strong win on Tuesday, Virginia returned to action against Navy with the game beginning at 3 pm rather than the originally scheduled 4 pm slot due to inclement weather.
Jacob Ferrence opened up the scoring for the Hoos with a solo home run in the bottom of the second. The homer was Ferrence's fifth of the season.

In the fourth, Chone James's hit brought Chris Arroyo home before Ferrence scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly. After that, Nunnallee scored on a wild pitch to give the Hoos a 4-0 lead.
Navy fired back with a run at the top of the fifth, but the effort fell short as the Virginia pitching tandem of Chris Arroyo, Wes Arrington, Matt Buchanan, and Drew Koenen held Navy to a run on three hits while striking out nine Midshipmen batters.
To finish the scoring, Henry Ford drove home Aidan Teel in the seventh inning after Teel recorded his 16th double of the season, giving Virginia a 5-1 win over Navy.
After two midweek wins, the Cavaliers will take a weeklong break for exams before hosting Towson on Wednesday, May 7th at 6 pm.

Some photos have emerged making their rounds online, and going viral, showing former Oilers fan-favorite Jarret Stoll skating with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. Edmonton Oilers fans got a surprise appearance from a familiar face of their hockey history with Travis Kelce's new Instagram post. What has been described by many as the 'hard launch' of his relationship with Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce took to social media to share photos of his off-season adventures. Although the pop star and NFL player have been seen together for months, this marks the first time Kelce has shared Taylor Swift on his Instagram. Among the photos, a photo of former Oilers forward and fan-favorite Jarret Stoll, who brought his wife, ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews, along with him, was included. The photos were likely taken in March, but have only surfaced now The photos reportedly were taken at Yellowstone Club in Montana on a March trip, and winter clothing and snowy backgrounds verified that itinerary. Kelce and Swift are even seen skating, which can only indicate they might've selected Jarret Stoll, their NHL connection, for some tips or possibly even a friendly game. Brothers Travis and Jason Kelce have been long-time hockey lovers and spent their childhood playing the game in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Stoll played five years with the Oilers between 2002 and 2008, logging 59 goals and 106 assists in 286 games. He was also an integral part of Edmonton's 2006 Stanley Cup Final run, appearing in all 24 playoff games. While now seen donning a Los Angeles Kings cap in the photo, a nod to his seven-year stint there, Stoll's Edmonton legacy sits with the fans. This is not the first inadvertent Oilers tie for Swift, though. She and Kelce attended the Stanley Cup Final this year, and a throwback photo of Swift with former Oiler Jeff Skinner from her 2013 Red Tour surfaced during the playoffs.
Aaron Boone Makes Feelings Clear After Yankees’ Big Trade
The New York Yankees didn't come into the season with the strongest third base situation, and it only got worse over time. They converted traditional second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. to the hot corner after getting him at the Trade Deadline last season and installed a timeshare with him, DJ LeMahieu, Oswald Peraza, and Oswaldo Cabrera there in 2025. However, the latter player broke his ankle on May 12, and the Yankees released the now 37-year-old LeMahieu on July 10. Chisholm was primarily back at second at that point, so this left Peraza and Jorbit Vivas as their only true remaining third basemen. With Peraza hitting .147 and Vivas hitting .164, it was clear what the team's biggest need was. That's why it acquired veteran third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies on Friday. New York manager Aaron Boone gave his thoughts about the 30-year-old before Friday's bout with the Philadelphia Phillies, via SNY. "I know there's real offensive potential there. I know he's had real offensive success, as well as some struggles there over the last calendar year or two," he said. "It seems like over the last month he's really started swinging the bat like he's capable of. He can impact the ball, he can control the strike zone, he's had some swing-and-misses that have probably hurt him a little bit." "But then he can really defend over there," he continued. "The handful of times that we've played against them that I watch him, you're like, 'That's what it should look like over there.' He moves really well and has that prototypical good third base thing." McMahon is slashing .217/.314/.403 with 16 homers and 35 RBI over 100 games this season. He also has a .978 fielding percentage and six errors. Right-handed pitcher Will Warren (6-5, 4.91 ERA) will start for the Yankees against Phillies right-hander Taijuan Walker (3-5, 3.75 ERA) on Friday.
Why as many as 100 NFL players are facing fines and potential suspension
There is not a bigger sporting event in North America than the Super Bowl, and tickets are only getting more expensive every year. There is also a ridiculous secondary market for tickets where seats sell for well above the original face value. It is usually fans or ticket resellers going for a quick profit. But as was reported on Friday, sometimes it can be players in the NFL looking to make a profit. According to multiple reports, including the Associated Press and ESPN, more than 100 players are facing fines and potential suspensions for selling their allotment of tickets to this year's Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs for above face value. Players are reportedly facing fines of one-and-a-half times the face value they originally paid for the tickets, while they are also prevented from purchasing tickets to the Super Bowl for the next seasons. The Associated Press obtained a memo from the NFL detailing the violation and investigation. That memo was as follows: “Our initial investigation has determined that a number of NFL players and coaches, employed by several NFL Clubs, sold Super Bowl tickets for more than the ticket’s face value in violation of the Policy. This long-standing League Policy, which is specifically incorporated into the Collective Bargaining Agreement, prohibits League or Club employees, including players, from selling NFL game tickets acquired from their employer for more than the ticket’s face value or for an amount greater than the employee originally paid for the ticket, whichever is less. We are in the process of completing our investigation into this matter, but the investigation has revealed that club employees and players sold their tickets to a small number of ‘bundlers’ who were working with a ticket reseller to sell the Super Bowl tickets above face value.” If players are not willing to pay the fine, they could be facing suspension from the league. It seems unlikely that any of the players — none of whom have been named, or their teams — would refuse to pay such a fine. It's also one of those moments where you can say, professional athletes — they're still normal people trying to make a quick buck. The most logical answer here is perhaps some of the players caught up in this are younger players who have not yet struck it rich on a big contract or perhaps even practice squad players who are not making top dollar.
Phoenix Suns make 'concrete' offer to Golden State Warriors wing Jonathan Kuminga
The Phoenix Suns pursuit for Golden State Warriors wing Jonathan Kuminga is reaching its final stages. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Phoenix and Sacramento Kings have made “concrete” offers to the 22-year-old. Kuminga hasn’t received much interest in restricted free agency but could still make the jump from the Warriors to a different team next season. Charania on Suns interest with Kuminga: “I’m told the Phoenix Suns and the Sacramento Kings are two teams that have made concrete offers to the Warriors over the last week or so. They’re two of the most aggressive teams.” Reports have indicated that the Warriors want a first-round pick, a solid role player and no bad contracts. The Suns are lacking in first-round picks but have plenty of role players to offer in a sign-and-trade. Shooting guards Grayson Allen or Royce O’Neale would have to be a part of any trade with Kuminga because of the former lottery pick’s high asking price. Allen makes nearly $17 million, while O’Neale cost around $10 million. The duo are some of the most effective shooters in the NBA and would be a perfect player to play off ball of superstar Stephen Curry. Phoenix has a surplus at shooting guard and wouldn’t lose much positional depth with the departure of the two backcourt players. In 2024-2025, Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists on 45.4% shooting from the field. The turmoil between the young wing and head coach Steven Kerr boiled over after limited playing time in the playoffs. The DNPs that Kuminga racked up in the playoffs likely has hurt the value of him in free agency and in the trade market, which could help Phoenix in its pursuit.
