Warner Bros. has deleted the entire Cartoon Network website, including all episodes and video clips you could formerly watch there for free, everything from Teen Titans to Adventure Time. In its place is a message directing viewers to Max, where they’re encouraged to subscribe and watch their favorite Cartoon Network shows.
The Cartoon Network wipe comes shortly after the company merged Cartoon Network with Warner Animation, prompting fears that the animation giant and its archive of television shows might be in danger – fears that have, seemingly, become even more well-founded than we first thought. Warner Bros. has an unpleasant habit of randomly removing shows from Max that it thinks have low growth potential, leaving viewers with no other way to access them.
“We are focusing on the Cartoon Network shows and social media where we find consumers are the most engaged and there is a meaningful potential for growth,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson told Variety. They also said that Cartoon Network will continue to air its regularly scheduled programming on linear TV every day from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Warner Bros. reported significant losses in its recent earnings call and has struggled to find ways to maximize its streaming revenue for the past 18 months, despite already making over $1 billion as of April 2024. Max’s monthly plans start at $9.99, though ad-free plans will run you a bit more. They start at $16.99, unless you opt for bundles with Hulu or Disney+. Those start at $29.99.
