In what has become an unnecessary trend, another high level recruit decided to disrespect a few schools while making his college commitment. This time it was offensive lineman J.B. Shabazz, who made his decision on Friday.

Before we get to the unnecessary commitment announcement, the winners of the chase, Tennessee, did add a nice piece to their future offensive line. The four-star from North Carolina had offers from some of the top programs in the country before trimming his list to the Vols, Ohio State and South Carolina.

But while the Vols should be happy with their addition, Shabazz chose to disrespect Ohio State and South Carolina in the process. Did the Buckeyes and Gamecocks already know that he was committing to the Vols at the time of his commitment? That is likely, as it isn’t often nowadays that a commitment is made without the schools already knowing the destination, but even if he did, there is no reason to disparage the coaching staffs of two schools that he had surely established close ties with.

And if you don’t want to critique a “kid”, then you should critique the people around him. Someone in his inner circle should have told him that this was a bad idea. It is a monumental moment in his life, that now received negative attention that easily could have been avoided.

With all this said, everyone knows that it will happen again and when it does I’ll write another article about it.
