The USC Trojans landed arguably one of the best tight end prospects of all time in the 2026 recruiting cycle when five-star tight end Mark Bowman pledged to the Trojans. After landing Bowman, the Trojans set their sights on landing five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson, who is a top prospect in the 2027 recruiting cycle in both basketball and football. Both Eric Musselman and Lincoln Riley, USC's respective basketball and football coaches, have jumped into the mix for Hudson, who could become the latest two-sport athlete to shine for the Trojans. USC Targeting Next Big-Time Tight End Prospect? Hudson spoke with 247Sports about his recruitment, which has exploded this offseason. At the conclusion of his sophomore campaign, Hudson held nine offers, but that numbers has ballooned to 25 since the offseason began. "LSU of course. USC, Alabama, Auburn, Texas A M has been talking to me a lot. Nebraska is in there. It's really just all the schools that have offered both that I'm taking into consideration...I'm going to try to make it out to Nebraska and USC as well," Hudson told 247Sports. The No. 1 tight end and No. 18 player in the country according to 247Sports Composite rankings, Hudson is the best player in the state of Louisiana, which says a lot considering the amount of talent to come from the Bayou State. It's interesting to see that Hudson listed the Trojans as a team that has taken heavy interest in bringing him for both football and basketball. ESPN has Hudson listed as a four-star power forward and have him ranked as the No. 5 power forward and No. 10 player in the country. Hudson fits the type of frame that Musselman looks for on the basketball court at 6-7, 225 pounds. Obviously the athleticism is there as well with him being a two-sport athlete, another key trait of Musselman's recruits. Trojans' Recent History With Two-Sport Athletes Most recently, the Trojans saw Drake London play both basketball and football. London played basketball for only two seasons under coach Andy Enfield from 2019-2020. He elected to focus solely on football for his junior season and the rest is history. Hudson is an even better talent on the basketball court than London was and if he ends up at USC, he has a real chance of getting minutes on the hardwood and snaps on the gridiron as a true freshman. Former USC wide receiver Duce Robinson also was a two-sport athlete. The current-Florida State Seminole played baseball in addition to football. He was quite the baseball player too, being only the third player to ever be named as an Under Armour All-American in football and baseball.
Oregon wide receiver Jurrion Dickey has struggled to live up to expectations in his first two seasons with the Ducks, and he is now in a terrible position heading into 2025 as well. Dickey has been suspended indefinitely by Oregon, head coach Dan Lanning announced on Tuesday. Lanning also suggested that Dickey may not play for the Ducks again. "We have two team rules; that’s respectful, be on time,” Lanning said, via James Crepea of The Oregonian. “There’s some pieces of that where I felt like he needed a break from us and we needed a break from that so we could focus on what’s in front of us right now. "Wishing him nothing but the best, as far as success and want to see him get back to where he can be a contributor somewhere; that might be here that might be somewhere else.” Dickey was a five-star recruit and rated as one of the top wide receivers in the country when he came out of Menlo-Atherton High School in Atherton, Calif., in 2023. He suffered an injury in his senior year in high school and redshirted as a freshman at Oregon. Dickey has two catches for 14 years during his time with the Ducks. Oregon went 13-1 in Lanning's third season with the program last season. The Ducks lost to eventual national champion Ohio State in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.
Pete Alonso is now the New York Mets' all-time home run king. With his opposite-field, two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night, Alonso clubbed the 253rd and 254th home runs of his Mets career, moving him into sole possession of first place on the team's all-time list. He moved two home runs ahead of the previous record-holder, Darryl Strawberry, who hit 252 home runs with the team between the 1983 and 1990 seasons. Here is a look at his record-setting home run. Later in the bottom of the sixth inning, Alonso hit his 254th home run: Along with the all-time Mets home run lead, Alonso is also the Mets' single-season home run leader with 53 home runs during the 2019 season. Strawberry congratulated Alonso on breaking his record: His home runs on Tuesday were his 27th and 28th of the season. It is a big deal for Alonso because there was some doubt this past offseason about whether he would have a chance to set this record. Even though he was close, the uncertainty around his future, given his free-agent status, created a lot of questions about where he would play. Ultimately, the Mets re-signed him to a two-year, $54 million contract that includes an opt-out clause following the 2025 season. That opt-out will again create some uncertainty about his future, but it is pretty clear Alonso still has a lot of power left in his bat. Whether he returns to the Mets or goes somewhere else, he will remain the franchise's greatest home run hitter for the foreseeable future. He is now on top of the record books for the single season and career.
Cleveland Browns All-Pro pass-rusher Myles Garrett became the subject of headlines when it was learned that he was cited for driving 100 mph in a 60 mph zone on an interstate in a Cleveland suburb several hours after the Browns opened the preseason with a 30-10 win at the Carolina Panthers on Friday night. While speaking with reporters ahead of the club's joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday morning, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski sent a clear message regarding his feelings about Garrett's latest speeding incident. "Coming from a team leader, extremely disappointing," Stefanski said about Garrett, per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN. "It's been addressed with Myles -- with the football team. He needs to slow down for his safety and the safety of others." Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer mentioned that Garrett has had at least eight speeding citations in Northeast Ohio since Cleveland made him the first overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. Back in the fall of 2022, Garrett missed a game after he was involved in a single-car accident following a team practice. The Ohio State Highway Patrol ultimately issued Garrett a citation following that crash after it was determined he was using an "unsafe speed for the type of roadway being traveled." Cabot added that Stefanski declined to say if Garrett will be disciplined this summer. Earlier in the week, Cabot wrote that Garrett could "be fined for conduct detrimental to the team." Back in early February, Garrett requested a trade from the Browns coming off the club's 3-14 season. However, he later accepted a four-year, $160M contract extension that included $123.5M guaranteed to stay with the organization. Browns owner Jimmy Haslam revealed during the NFL owners meetings in the spring that he had "challenged" Garrett "to become a real leader of the team." Haslam made that comment after a March report shared that it's "well known within the Browns that Garrett is frequently late to the facility" and "has skipped mandatory team activities on multiple occasions." It remains to be seen how the 29-year-old will respond to Stefanski's comments about an incident that occurred after Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders was cited for speeding twice in June.
