The Wawa 250 at Daytona has been put on hold due to lightning in the area. There is at least a 30-minute delay currently. There is a chance of rain and storms in the area all throughout the night, so this could be an ongoing battle for NASCAR tonight in the Xfinity Series.
Right now, Xfinity Series drivers are standing by. Connor Zilisch, fresh off his surgery and collarbone injury, is starting P1 after qualifying was canceled. He could get out of the car and let Parker Kligerman take over tonight at some point.
The Wawa 250 is going to get underway. Right now, we are looking at an 8:00 PM ET start time. That is, if there aren’t any further delays.

While the lightning delay was over in 30 minutes, there have been further weather delays. Before the end of Stage 1, rain came into the area and put the caution flag out. It wasn’t long before the red flag was displayed. As of 9:00 PM ET, the Wawa 250 is still on hold for rain, and NASCAR will need to dry parts of the track.
Daytona in the summer. You never know when or where the rain and lightning is going to strike. So, it’s a guessing game right now. It appears there will be a window to finish the race soon. However, Mother Nature will ultimately have the final word on that.
Before the caution came out for rain, Harrison Burton spun out on the backstretch at Daytona and had issues. The NASCAR driver told his team that he was hit by a crush panel, and he also had some kind of dust or debris get into his eyes.
NASCAR didn’t throw the caution flag. Harrison Burton spun out hard enough to break the crush panels, and then they came into the car and hit him. Burton says that he is all good and ready to get back to racing. But he has had a little bit of pain.
Burton was seen pouring water into his eyes. Then, in the video shown on The CW below, you can see the debris hit him. Red flag currently for weather, Burton is only a lap down, and there are only a few laps left in the stage. The 25 car should be back on the lead lap soon enough.
The Wawa 250 continues on The CW. Just as soon as the red flag is lifted, that is. It should be within moments.
