One of the biggest off-the-field questions for the Tennessee Vols is the program's looming apparel decision.
Nike has been Tennessee's official apparel provider for the last decade, but that contract is set to expire after the upcoming season.
Tennessee has been in talks with providers this offseason, with Adidas emerging as a potential partner.
The expectation is that Tennessee will come to an agreement with a provider this summer. And the feeling is that Adidas will likely be the choice.
VolQuest's Brent Hubbs joined 104.5 The Zone's Ramon and Will on Friday and he shared the latest update on where things stand between Tennessee, Adidas, and Nike.
"I think it's going to be [done] by the end of the month," said Hubbs. "I think we're in a two week window to get that done. I think the question is, how are they going to announce it? How are they going to release it? Auburn did their deal and never released financial figures. I mean, you can't find the financial figures on what their deal's like. So, Auburn kind of quietly did it.
"That's a delicate balance. Because if you change your providers, which it certainly feels like that's probably the direction Tennessee is going, how much do you celebrate it when you're wearing the other provider for the year? Do you do a big reveal, or do you kind of put out a [statement saying] hey, we're changing providers. And then when you finish out [the exisiting contract], this time next year, do you do a big reveal? We'll see how they elect to play that. But I think the decision in the contract part of that is going to be done here in the next two weeks -- it would make the most sense to have that done. I don't think it's going to be much longer."
It sounds like Vols fans won't have to wait much longer to find out if Tennessee will once again be an Adidas school.
