During a recent Wisconsin football skills camp, a Minnesota native impressed at quarterback despite not fully meeting personal standards.
Caden Gutzmer, a 2027 quarterback from Minnetonka, Minnesota, was on campus in Madison for a camp with the Badgers staff. The quarterback currently holds offers from Sacramento State and South Dakota, while also drawing interest from Iowa State, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Rutgers among many other programs, according to 247Sports. The talented athlete stands in at 6-feet-2-inches, and roughly 200-pounds with both a strong arm and a capable run game as well.
Thank you @CoachFick @CoachGuiton and @TheRealNickOsen for the great conversations @BadgerFootball. Really appreciated the opportunity to compete and talk about the program, always such a great experience @CampRandallStdm! @TheRealNickOsen @TonkaFB @QuarterbackUniv… pic.twitter.com/8Bai5iB8ok

In Madison, Gutzmer impressed during the camp while getting his first chance at meeting coach Kenny Guiton. When asked about meeting the coach, Gutzmer stated, “This was my first time meeting coach Guiton, I was very impressed. He seems like he would be a great guy to play for, and we would work well together.”
As for the camp itself, the quarterback stated, “Honestly, I thought my performance was 85% of my best. I missed on a few of the small things that I normally hit, still a great learning experience and good day!” Despite not performing fully up to his own capabilities, the Wisconsin football staff still liked what the quarterback had to display.
No matter the outcome of a camp however, Gutzmer prides himself on focus on the mental aspects of the game and being able to adapt. “Coach Donovan Dooley and Coach Connor Sampson with QBU always preach to me that 80% of the game is mental,” stated Gutzmer.
Gutzmer has been working with Quarterback University, which is a traveling coaching service that works with the likes of top-ranked recruit and Michigan enrollee Bryce Underwood, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton, and four-star 2027 Nebraska commitment Trae Taylor.
Being a good quarterback or even a good player in general requires more than just mental attributes, however, and Gutzmer is aware of this. When the quarterback was asked about what he feels sets himself apart from other quarterbacks, Gutzmer stated, “What sets me apart is my work ethic, because I love this game more than anything, and I want to always win.”
The quarterback also added, “Lastly, to be a good quarterback, you have to be a leader, I feel like I’ve had success in doing that.” Gutzmer is a confident player and between the physical skills and mental stability of the quarterback, the future with or without the Wisconsin football program is bright. With the incoming season looming, Gutzmer will have a big opportunity to carve out more collegiate attention and offers.
