After months of work was put into recruiting, the Wisconsin football staff has landed arguably the top player on the 2026 board.
Amari Latimer, a composite four-star running back, has announced his commitment to the Wisconsin football program. Latimer was recently on campus for an official visit and then the recruit booked a surprise unofficial visit just days later. The recruit was on campus when the announcement was delivered to the staff, but the running back held true to his original commitment date despite being impressed by the Badgers.
Latimer is a big pickup for the Wisconsin staff as the Georgia native has a list of scholarship offers that includes Texas, Michigan, Georgia, Auburn, Florida, and Ohio State. The Buckeyes had attempted to make a hard push late alongside the Wolverines, but the Wisconsin football staff was able to hang onto the lead and secure a commitment from Latimer.
Wisconsin has had multiple notable wins in talent-rich southern states which bodes well for the future recruiting success of the program. Latimer is arguably the biggest commitment in the 2026 recruiting class for Wisconsin due to the effort and dedication that was required to land the running back.
Latimer is truly a running back that could change how a team performs on the field, and Wisconsin is standing behind that after relentlessly recruiting the running back.
Running backs coach Devon Spalding was pivotal in securing a commitment from the talented recruit alongside some familiar faces. 2026 wide receiver and Wisconsin football commitment Tayshon Bardo also played a role in the commitment of Latimer. The running back expressed that he felt “welcome” at Wisconsin after meeting with Bardo and the staff.

The 5-foot-11-inch, 210-pound running back currently comes in at the 287th spot nationally according to 247Sports. Latimer is also considered to be the 17th overall running back in the 2026 class as well as the 30th ranked recruit in a deep in-state class. The running back has largely been considered one of the most underrated recruits in the class and the offer list Latimer holds as a three-star recruit speaks for the talent the recruit possesses.
The running back had picked up multiple expert predictions across 247Sports and On3 to land with the Wisconsin football program ahead of his commitment. Latimer is now the top-ranked Wisconsin commitment in the 2026 class after Carmelow Reed flipped to Ole Miss. Wisconsin has been hot since Reed left the class, landing commitments from speedy three-stars Zachary Taylor and Zion Legree.
