Even though she has retired from playing basketball, former Las Vegas Aces star Candace Parker is still active in helping the next generation embrace the sport. This can be seen in a recent photo for the former WNBA champion coaching Capri, the late Kobe Bryant‘s youngest daughter.
Parker is widely regarded as one of the greatest WNBA players of all time. The versatile forward and center was selected as the first overall pick in the 2008 Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks, kicking off an illustrious 16-year professional career.
The forward’s basketball prowess was evident even in high school, as she became the second junior and the only woman to be named the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year twice. Continuing her dominance at the collegiate level, she led the Tennessee Volunteers to two consecutive national championships and was named the Final Four’s most outstanding player on both occasions.
After being drafted by the Sparks, the former Aces star went on to win numerous accolades, including two MVP Awards, a Finals MVP Award, and two Olympic gold medals. She was the first player to win the Rookie of the Year and MVP awards in the same season and the second player to dunk in a WNBA game.
Following her retirement in 2024, Parker transitioned into a new role as the president of Adidas women’s basketball, leveraging her influence to further elevate the sport. Her legacy extends beyond the court, as she has become an inspiring figure and a trailblazer for women in basketball.
Although Parker is done with the WNBA , she isn’t finished with the sport itself. This can be seen in a recent photo of her coaching Capri Bryant, the late Los Angeles Lakers legend’s daughter, in a heartwarming photo shared Parker on her Instagram account, as seen in a post by TimeoutSPORTS_ on X.

Bryant died on January 26, 2020, at the age of 41 in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. The crash also killed his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others. Investigations into the accident found that the pilot likely became disoriented in the fog. The pair were survived by Vanessa, Kobe’s wife, and their other daughters – Natalia, Bianka, and Capri.
Even though the Black Mamba has been gone for quite some time, his influence continues to enrich the sport he love. And with Parker carrying the torch for his daughter, the spirit of the late Los Angeles Lakers icon.
