WVU’s Wren Baker Says There’s ‘No Truth’ to Oklahoma Talk

West Virginia athletic director Wren Baker addressed the recent wave of speculation connecting him to the Oklahoma job and made it clear he’s not going anywhere.

Speaking on the John Fredericks Radio Show, Baker called the rumors unfounded and said he hasn’t had a single conversation or interview about leaving Morgantown.

 

He also mentioned that this isn’t the first time his name has been mentioned for other jobs and pointed out that he has turned down multiple opportunities since arriving at WVU.

The rumors have picked up traction over the last few weeks as Oklahoma prepares to replace longtime AD Joe Castiglione. Despite the noise, Baker said his family loves it in West Virginia and that his focus remains on building the Mountaineers’ future in the new-look Big 12. He said he doesn’t normally address these kinds of stories publicly, but this time he wanted to address it directly.

Reports from multiple outlets, including Sports Illustrated and WV Sports Now, backed up Baker’s stance and noted there has been no formal connection between him and the job in Norman. Sources at Oklahoma have downplayed the rumors as well, suggesting the Sooners may be targeting a candidate with stronger ties to the program.
