Even in the midst of a modern boom period, WWE executives are refusing to take their foot off the gas. Weekly programming is finally consistently engaging, furthering angles and creating an old-school "must-watch" appeal.
WrestleMania season only increases surprises, with returns and new signings expected to appear over the next couple of months to bolster an already-loaded roster. After heavy speculation, a former AEW champion has finally made the jump to WWE and could be on screen very soon.
According to Fightful Select Español, Ray Fenix has officially signed with the company. As mentioned in the report, this was widely assumed after a vignette on last week's SmackDown all but revealed his impending arrival.
Fenix is the brother of Penta, and the pair wrestled together as part of the Lucha Brothers tag team across various promotions. Fenix has frequently floated around the mid-card as a single, having one 20-day reign as the AEW International champion.
Fenix is a spectacular high flyer with a wide variety of aerial moves. He's lightning-fast in the ring and looks like a blur when bouncing off the ropes. Fenix immediately provides a style dichotomy to most of the talent on the main roster and is a sufficient Ricochet replacement.
It's likely intentional that Chad Gable's current American flag luchador mask he's been using recently is very similar in shape to the one Fenix dons. I'm expecting Fenix to be inserted in that story in some fashion, either helping Penta or shockingly coming in as a heel to align himself with Gable.
