2025 PGA Championship: Jon Rahm hits fan with approach shot at Quail Hollow

Rahm entered round three tied for 27th place on the leaderboard, and was six shots behind then-leader Jhonattan Vegas coming into Saturday. After 36 holes, the Spanish golfer believed he was poised for a strong start to the weekend.

“I think I’m in good position,” he said after the round on Friday afternoon. “Adding to the fact that I feel like I’m getting better, more confident with the swing. I made a lot of good swings out there today (Friday) and gave myself plenty of chances.”

He did exactly that, climbing up the leaderboard throughout Saturday’s delayed action. Inclement and “dangerous” weather in the Charlotte area forced action to be pushed back for a couple of hours. Many expected the soggy grass to play a role in the performance of some of the athlete’s on Saturday, but it doesn’t appear as though it played much of a role on his approach shot.

Despite the shank, Rahm was been playing a strong ground of golf. He’s moved up from 27th on the leaderboard and has been hovering outside of the top 10. Through 12 holes, he is -4 and tied for 10th place.

At the time of Rahm’s shot, Si Woo Kim moved past Vegas on the leaderboard. Kim made headlines during Friday’s action after he hit a hole-in-one on at Quail Hollow, roping a shot on the 252-yard par 3 sixth hole. He’s facing stiff competiton from Vegas, Ryo Hisatsune, Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler is the odds-on favorite through six holes on Saturday, boasting +120 odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. DeChambeau is behind him at +330, while Rahm is all the way back at +2000 odds to win the major. Rahm has won a Masters (2023) and the US Open (2021) in his career, but never the PGA Championship.
