Just days after Jordan Spieth admitted he struggled so much at the U.S. Open that he needed to hit up Buffalo Wild Wings for some beer, the former world No. 1 made a different kind of unfortunate decision on Thursday.

With the opening round of the tournament being played at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut and taking place on Thursday, Spieth lasted just 12 holes.

As reported by Golf.com, Spieth was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to an injury. A rare occurrence for the Dallas, Texas native who has made over $65 million throughout his career.

"Jordan Spieth has withdrawn from the Travelers Championship due to injury," read the report. "His first WD in 297 PGA Tour starts."

According to NBC, Spieth's first mid-tournament withdrawal came after he "injured his neck." It was clear he was dealing with some severe pain, as after one of his drives, he nearly fell to the ground as he groaned in pain.

Through his 12 holes, Spieth had shot 5-over, with five of the holes he played resulting in a bogey.

The past few tournaments for Spieth have not been what he and his fans are used to from him to say the least. Spieth finished tied for No. 23 at the U.S. Open, tied for No. 7 at the Memorial Tournament, tied for No. 36 at the Charles Schwab Challenge and missed the cut at the PGA Championship.

While this was another unexpected setback, some time off could help Spieth return to form.
