Teeing off hours before the world's best golfers, amateur Christo Lamprecht set a high bar for the field by shooting a five-under 66 during the opening round at The Open.

Per Justin Ray, Lamprecht's 66 is the second-lowest opening round by an amateur at The Open and only one stroke behind the record of 65 set by Tom Lewis in 2011.
Christo Lamprecht opens with 66, the 2nd-lowest opening round by an amateur in the history of The Open Championship. Only Tom Lewis in 2011 (65) better.

Lamprecht is the first amateur to shoot a round in the 60s in an Open at Royal Liverpool.
The PGA Tour published a list of five things to know about Lamprecht, 22, after his remarkable start at the final golf major of the year. Lamprecht is a senior at Georgia Tech and has had his fair share of amateur success. Few could have seen his opening round coming, however, despite him being hard to miss at 6-foot-8.
He found his comfort zone early, getting under-par on the third hole to set the tone for the day that followed.

Lamprecht avoided disaster on the par-four No. 4 with his ball in the bunker for his third shot and was able to save par, taking his swing with one leg in the bunker and the other on the green.

He saved arguably his best shot on the par-four 14th hole. His chip from the fairway took a couple of bounces on the green before rolling into the hole, giving him the lead at four-under.

He added a birdie on the next hole to put him at five-under, where he'd finish the round.
PGA Tour notes that Lamprecht qualified for The Open by winning The Amateur Championship in June.
"I'm over the moon," he said after winning that event. "I haven't won something big in a long time," he continued. While it's way too early to make any declarations about how this weekend will unfold, Lamprecht made quite the impression Thursday at The Open. Something tells us he's got plenty of big wins in his future.
