Wyndham Clark has once again found himself in the firing line from golf fans after his comments about the course at the Hero World Challenge.
Earlier this year, he was banned from Oakmont after damaging a locker room during the US Open.
It was not an isolated incident either, as Clark had also thrown his driver into an advertising board at the PGA Championship earlier in 2025.
He has made it clear that he is eager to move on from this season, but his latest remarks about the conditions at Albany have only added to what has been a turbulent stretch for him.
When asked during the event what makes the grass challenging to play on, Clark replied: “Do you want the politically correct answer? It’s not in good shape.
“You’re always chipping into the grain, and there’s a lot of chips that are up and over, so you have to chip up.
“And you’re coming from really bad lies in Bermuda, and you have to hit it up and there’s just very little margin for error.”
His remarks did not go down well with some fans. One posted on X: “Poor baby. Playing for free money and extra points. Most overrated player on tour.”
Another added: “Such an ungrateful person. Rankings are sinking, gets a free lifeline into the Hit and Giggle to rescue his world ranking and he’s b——-? Such a chump.”
“Poor baby has to play golf for a living in such terrible conditions, hope Tiger [Woods] forgets to invite him next year,” a third wrote.
Others said: “Oh no… you have to chip into the grain…. Such a travesty,” and “Locker rooms everywhere are trembling…”
Despite his frustration with course conditions, Clark has performed well at the Hero World Challenge this week.
Heading into the final round, he sits tied for fifth place at 13-under, just four shots behind leader Sepp Straka.
Straka leads at 17-under, with Scottie Scheffler close behind at 16-under. Hideki Matsuyama and Alex Noren are both at 14-under.
It has been a frustrating season for Clark on the PGA Tour in 2025, so a good result at Tiger Woods’ event would be a nice way to finish the year.
In his 24 starts this year, he missed five cuts and withdrew from one event. He did not record any wins but did manage two top-10 finishes.
