Brandel Chamblee has great response to question about U.S. Open winner

The U.S. Open is viewed by many as the toughest test in golf, but one longtime analyst believes Scottie Scheffler will handle it just fine.

With the 2025 U.S. Open a week away, the annual discussions about diabolical rough and a potential over-par champion are in full swing. Videos have already been circulating showing how thick the rough is at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa., and Justin Thomas recently said the rumors about the course are true.

Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee was asked by a social media follower this week to predict the winning score at Oakmont. Chamblee had a great response.

“Whatever Scottie Scheffler shoots,” Chamblee replied.

Scheffler is an overwhelming favorite heading into the U.S. Open, and for good reason. The World No. 1 golfer is in peak form and coming off his third win in his last four starts. He has finished in the top 10 in his last seven events.

Scheffler blew the field away at the PGA Championship last month. He finished with a score of 11-under, which was five shots better than the three players who tied for second. He didn’t even play his best down the stretch but still managed to cruise to an easy win.

Though he has yet to win a U.S. Open, Scheffler has been knocking on the door at that major as well. He finished third in 2023, tied for second in 2022 and tied for seventh in 2021.

If Scheffler continues to play the way he has over the past few months, Chamblee may be right that the rest of the field won’t stand a chance.
