The best in the world have congregated at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland for the 2025 Open Championship. Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm are the three men to beat at the final major championship of the year, but some big names have no chance of winning the Claret Jug.
As well as DeChambeau has played this year, he doesn't stand much of a chance on a links golf course as tough as Royal Portrush. DeChambeau models his game on being a robot—hitting consistent, high draws that fly specific distances. That doesn't mesh well with wind, rain and being forced to hit a variety of shots at different trajectories.

In seven career Open Championship starts, DeChambeau finished cut, T60, T8, T33, cut, T51 and cut. His T8 also came at a calm St. Andrews, which is generous to the bomb and gouge strategy. Royal Portrush is not.
What is going on with the Morikawa camp? The short answer: Nothing good.
Morikawa is now on his fourth caddie of the season after picking up veteran bag man Billy Foster. Sparks were not flying in the debut, as the two-time major winner missed the cut at the Genesis Scottish Open after shooting a 6-over 76 in the second round.
Morikawa has finished better than T17 just once in his last nine starts, and he's lost strokes on approach, around the green and putting in two of his last three. It would be shocking if Morikawa fixes his physical and mental woes to win the Claret Jug.
Lowry will be a popular pick this week considering he won in a landslide the last time Royal Portrush hosted the Open Championship, but this feels different. The pressure and emotions of returning to Northern Ireland as the reigning champion at Portrush will be too much to overcome for the proud Irishman.
Aside from the mental hurdles, Lowry isn't playing solid golf right now. The 38-year-old missed the cut at the U.S. Open and finished T45 at the Travelers Championship in his last two starts, and he lost 8.64 true strokes around the green in that span. The short game is a mess right now, and you'll need to scramble well to win this week.
