Cardinals Read: Men’s Golf Team Bolsters Roster with Two Exciting Additions to 2024 Signing Class

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In an exciting announcement, the University of Louisville men’s golf program revealed the signing of Warren Thomis and Brady Smith to national letters of intent for the 2024 class. Head coach Ryan Blagg couldn’t contain his enthusiasm as he shared his thoughts on the new additions.

“I couldn’t be more excited for this year’s signing class,” Blagg said. “Brady and Warren have dominated junior and high school golf in Kentucky and continue to show why they are ranked so highly in the state and national rankings. Both of these guys have serious grit and know how to win. Today is a big day for our program.”

Hailing from Richmond, Ky., Thomis has already made a name for himself by winning the 44th Kentucky Boys Junior Amateur. He secured the victory by carding four birdies on the back nine of the Big Blue Course at the University of Kentucky Club, finishing with a four-shot lead. Thomis has a remarkable record, including five high school tournament wins and the 2022 AJGA Arnold Palmer Junior Invitational Championship.

Thomis also played a pivotal role in leading his Madison Central High School squad to consecutive state titles. Individually, he achieved second place in the 2021 and 2023 state championships and captured fourth place in 2022. Thomis maintains an impressive high school career averaging 69.98 strokes per round. With all these achievements, Thomis is ranked third in Kentucky and 75th nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard.

On the other hand, Smith, who attended Christian Academy in Louisville, showcased his talent by clinching consecutive state individual titles. His dominance was evident in his second state championship, where he tied the state’s scoring record by shooting an astonishing 8-under-par 136 at the Bowling Green Country Club. Additionally, Smith emerged victorious in the 2022 Individual High School State Championship with a score of 67-73=140.

Smith’s exceptional performances earned him the title of Kentucky Junior Player of the Year in 2022 and 2023. He currently holds the 13th spot in Junior Golf Scoreboard’s ranking and is regarded as Kentucky’s number one player. Smith also exhibited his skills in American Junior Golf Association events, securing four top-five finishes and claiming the second spot in the Justin Thomas Championship in 2023.

Notably, Smith has competed in the prestigious United States Amateur tournament twice and achieved a top-15 finish at the Junior PGA Championship held at the Hot Springs Country Club. According to the American Junior Golf Association rankings, Smith is positioned as the 20th-best player in the class of 2024. Golfweek also recognizes his talent, ranking him 11th in the same class.

The addition of Thomis and Smith to the University of Louisville men’s golf program adds tremendous depth and potential to an already formidable team. With their impressive accolades and undoubted talent, both players are expected to make significant contributions in the coming years.
