Justin Rose was in control of the 2026 Masters. Then came Amen Corner. The PGA Tour veteran pointed to one costly stretch at Augusta National that he believes cost him another green jacket.

“I think just a chance that got away, obviously. You know, I was by no means kind of free and clear and was nowhere kind of close to having the job done, but I was right in position,” said Justin Rose at Augusta on Sunday.

“You know, Amen Corner, without really hitting a bad shot but just not a good shot, not committed enough on maybe 11 shots specifically, it was kind of like two saves,” he said during the media interaction.

Rose finished tied for third at 10-under (278). Despite starting three shots behind the lead, he shot four birdies to move into the lead on the front 9.

Unfortunately, things fell apart at the Amen Corner. Justin Rose shot bogeys on 11 and 12, losing his two-shot lead. A par on the 13th after three putts and another dropped shot on 17 sealed his fate.

Ultimately, Rose ended the round two strokes behind Rory McIlroy, who won his second consecutive green jacket.

Justin Rose revealed the moment doubt crept in

“There was a lot of club, and it was a bit of a safe lie, and I kind of felt it in the fairway with the wind direction and just wasn’t able to really trust that one in there,” said the 45-year-old.

“Yeah, because I was really in control. First ten holes I felt like I was… And the mentality was to run through the finish line, not just try and get it done,” he added.

Justin Rose has three runner-up finishes, including playoff losses in 2017 and 2025, and every time he has fallen short in the final round.

“I was playing great, but just momentum shifted for me around the Amen Corner,” Rose explained.

Across 21 appearances, he has finished inside the top 25 sixteen times and has held or shared the lead after nine rounds, a mark also reached by Tiger Woods.
