Rumors in recent weeks indicate discussions between the PIF and the PGA Tour have been progressing, and the situation's calculus changed Monday as the DP World Tour (formerly PGA Europe) has reportedly reinstated the Tour cards of several LIV players for the 2025 season.

LIV players have been given a route to earn points to make them eligible for various tournaments and the Ryder Cup next fall. Those players ultimately can earn points to regain PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, as rookie sensation Matthieu Pavon did before last year. This feels like a major first step given the abrupt nature of the news.
However, not all LIV players regained status. Jon Rahm, Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed, Dean Burmeister, and Tyrrell Hatton were notable omissions from Monday's report. Additionally, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and Cam Smith weren't granted this status — at least not yet.
This seems like a momentous announcement, one that could precede a much larger development in the coming weeks. I speculate that the PIF and LIV Golf will likely take a controlling stake in the DP World Tour via a future merger. The pieces are in place, and a deal makes sense for all parties involved.
The DP World Tour needs life and the LIV players need a route back to earning PGA Tour status. A merger scenario would solve that issue on both ends. But again, it's just speculation at this point.
For now, golf fans will have to wait for details to emerge in the coming weeks.
