The top golfer in the world — Scottie Scheffler — is expected to arrive at Valhalla at some point on Monday for the PGA Championship, according to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington.

Scheffler missed last week’s Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow as his wife Meredith reportedly gave birth.

However, he will be back in action this weekend for golf’s second major of the year — the PGA Championship. Scottie Scheffler won the only other major held so far this season, pulling away for a four-shot victory at The Masters in April.

“Well, I can tell you that a lot of people were thankful that Scottie Scheffler was not at Quail Hollow because it gave them a little bit of a chance, Rory McIlroy included,” Darlington said Monday on SportsCenter. “But let’s start with Scheffler here. I am told that he is expected at Valhalla at some point today. I know we’re getting a little late in the afternoon. He’s not here yet.”

Scottie Scheffler and his wife Meredith have yet to announce the birth of their child, and he has not said for sure that he will play in the PGA Championship.

Still, multiple reports have said that Scheffler will play at Valhalla, including one from Bob Harig.

“There’s been nothing official from Scottie Scheffler, his team or the Tour… But word is he will be at Valhalla for the PGA next week after winning four of his last five tournaments, including the Masters. He is currently on the Tuesday interview schedule for 3:30 p.m. #babyborn,” Harig posted on Twitter.

Scottie Scheffler took Tour break as wife’s due date approached

The Schefflers have been on baby watch for weeks. Scottie Scheffler said before The Masters started that if his wife went into labor, he’d abandon the prestigious golf tournament and head back to Dallas. He ended up sticking around Augusta National to win his second Masters title and the green jacket that goes with it.

Meredith’s due date was late April. Scheffler took a break from the Tour to await the imminent birth.

Before the break, Scheffler had won four of his last five tournaments. He has until the end of business, Tuesday, to confirm his entry into the PGA Championship, golf’s second major of the season. The tournament starts Thursday and will be played at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

Golf Channel published a list of players who will be doing interviews in advance of the tournament. Scottie Scheffler’s name is right there with nine other players who are scheduled to speak to the media throughout the day on Tuesday.
