ESPN's Scott Van Pelt Has No Interest In Prominent Golf Job

Scott Van Pelt is a prominent voice for golf on ESPN.

Van Pelt helps broadcast The Masters on Thursday and Friday for ESPN before the coverage shifts to CBS for Saturday and Sunday's third and fourth rounds.

Jim Nantz calls those final two rounds for CBS and while he's not giving that up anytime soon, fans want Van Pelt to replace Nantz once he's done calling The Masters.

Van Pelt has heard those cries but isn't interested in being the person to call those last two rounds, especially the last one on Sunday.

“I don’t have some burning desire to be the one in the tower on 18 on a Sunday,” Van Pelt said on "The Varsity" podcast, (first transcribed by Awful Announcing). “Frankly, I wouldn’t want to do it, especially after Jim Nantz, because those footprints are too big.”

Nantz has been doing a great job with that role since he started anchoring it in 1989. Verne Lundquist was also outstanding at calling The Masters and called his final Masters Tournament last year. He had been doing it since 1983.

Van Pelt will continue his regular coverage of the event's first two days before handing it off to Nantz and CBS. In addition to his Masters coverage, Van Pelt also hosts SportsCenter during the evenings and also hosts Monday Night Countdown to preview each Monday Night Football game on ESPN.

He's one of ESPN's top broadcasters and has done a tremendous job year in and year out.

Scottie Scheffler won the 2024 Masters event and it was his second green jacket of his career. The 2025 Masters will take place from Augusta, Georgia from April 10-13.
