European Ryder Cup star critiques Scheffler’s footwork but hails his form

Scottie Scheffler has a knack for getting under people’s skin, but it’s hard to deny the respect he commands across the Tour.

The American put together another incredible season in 2025, winning five times and adding two more major titles to his collection.

And at Bethpage Black later this month, Scheffler will once again be a huge presence for Keegan Bradley’s Ryder Cup team.

Before that, Scheffler is set to play the Procore Championship, where he got in some early practice alongside Russell Henley and J.J. Spaun on Tuesday.

Either one of them could easily slot in as a playing partner for him during the event. Scheffler has spoken about how much he’s looking forward to the Ryder Cup. But not many European players will be eager to go up against him at Bethpage, that’s for sure.

Since February 2022, Scheffler has racked up 18 wins on the PGA Tour. If he keeps this pace up, he’ll be chasing down records sooner rather than later.

He said: “It’s beautiful yeah. People say his footwork is funky.” “He’s so impressive. Just how consistent he is,” McCarthy said of Scheffler.

“Like, it’s just – you can always count on him being there. And there’s a reason why he’s number one in the world.”

Straka isn’t exactly a slouch when it comes to iron play himself, ranking eighth in strokes gained approach and 16th in greens in regulation on the PGA Tour in 2025.

To make matters worse for his competitors, he also tops the tour in strokes gained off the tee.

One of Scheffler’s most impressive traits is his distance control with irons. His ability to consistently hit shots pin-high is remarkable.

He doesn’t need to attack every flag to make birdies, and that controlled approach means he rarely short-sides himself or drops unnecessary shots. It’s a big reason why he keeps stacking up wins.
