Tommy Fleetwood had gone 163 starts on the PGA Tour without a win. But number 164 proved to be the lucky charm on Sunday at the Tour Championship in Atlanta, Georgia.
The amicable 34-year-old entered the final round tied for the lead with Patrick Cantlay at 16-under, and he put together a 2-under 68 with seemingly most of the golf world behind him as he captured both the Tour Championship title itself and the season-long FedEx Cup.
One of the more sentimental cheerleaders for Fleetwood on Sunday came in the form of fellow Englishman and Ryder Cup Europe star Justin Rose. Fleetwood waited by the final green to console Rose during a crushing playoff loss at the Masters in April to Rory McIlroy, so it was only fitting that Rose was front and center for some of the celebrations for his good friend. Rose even face-timed Fleetwood’s wife Clare in the immediate aftermath of the win and showed her the scene of her husband’s adoring fans on the last hole.
That’s what good friends do.
Family above everything @JustinRose99 made sure Tommy's family was a part of the celebrations @TOURChamp. pic.twitter.com/1szZpVtXrQ

Congrats Tommy!
And the congratulations didn’t just stop with fellow players. Former player turned analyst Paul McGinley was fired up for Fleetwood after the big breakthrough win on Sunday.
Delighted to have being part of @SkySportsGolf team covering Tommy’s win up close this week. There’s much to say and I’ll be doing the Sky Golf podcast later today with @jamiecweir where we will dissect his great win as well as having a look at the upcoming Ryder cup …
