Winning once against a former World No. 1 feels special, but doing it twice, against a player you admire, hits differently. Hyo Joo Kim did exactly that, outplaying Nelly Korda in back-to-back weeks.

Speaking with quiet admiration rather than rivalry during the press conference at Whirlwind Golf Club on Sunday, Hyo Joo Kim reflected on her battle with the 2024 champion.

“Just loved and felt great playing with Nelly. She has such a beautiful swing, and this whole time it was just wire to wire, just so tight,” said the 2026 Ford Championship winner.

“Just watching her getting that eagle and finishing the birdie at the end, I think she is just a fantastic player,” she added.

As the week progressed, Hyo Joo Kim set a new LPGA 54-hole scoring mark at the Ford Championship with 191 (-25), including two rounds of 61.

Sunday’s momentum shifted briefly when World No. 2 Nelly Korda cut the lead to just one shot following a double bogey by Hyo Joo Kim on the 8th hole.

However, Kim quickly regained as Korda stumbled with back-to-back bogeys on the 9th and 10th. Kim’s birdie on the 10th created a decisive two-shot swing, effectively ending the challenge and pushing her lead back to four strokes to secure her second consecutive victory.

The win became Kim’s ninth LPGA title and her first title defense. Korda, with an eagle and a birdie to close, posted 262, the lowest 72-hole score of her LPGA career.

The win followed her result over Korda at the Fortinet Founders Cup, where she won by 1 stroke over Korda the previous week, making it two consecutive LPGA Tour titles for her.

Nelly Korda on the Putts That Made the Difference

That showed up late in the round of the Ford Championship, where Nelly Korda missed a two-foot par putt on the 15th, her second short miss of the day, which reduced her chances.

“Where it went wrong? There’s a couple shots here and there that I would like to get back, more like a couple putts throughout the week. I’m going to miss a bunch of those putts throughout my entire career, and I just can’t get down on myself,” Korda said.

Her results this season include one win and two runner-up finishes in three starts. She finished at 26-under, the lowest 72-hole score of her LPGA career.

She also pointed to the level of play from Hyo Joo Kim. “I’m done playing with her,” Korda said, jokingly. It was the fifth straight time that they were paired together.

Korda then acknowledged the form of Hyo Joo Kim.“Hyo Joo has been playing amazing golf; she is a phenomenal player and person. She definitely motivates me on the golf course.”

What did you think of Nelly Korda’s performance in that final round?
