GOAT Tiger Woods 'disappointed' to miss 2024 Hero World Challenge, announces three exemptions for playing field
Mandi Wright / USA TODAY NETWORK

On Monday, 15-time major champion Tiger Woods confirmed he will not be playing at the 2024 Hero World Challenge. He would take to his social media accounts to inform this and claimed he was “disappointed” for missing out on the event.

The initial field for this event was released last month. In this, the name of Woods was excluded as he continued to recover from back surgery. However, there were some who expected him to announce his name later on as one of the exemptions.

Last year, Woods made his return to golf after a seven-month absence at this event. This though will not be the case this year as he decided to optioned out of the event. While he will not be playing, he will be watching from the sidelines as the host.

Taking to his X account, he announced the final three members of this playing field. Justin Thomas, Jason Day , and Nick Dunlap will take part in the tournament this event and complete the 20-man playing field.

I am disappointed that I will not be able to compete this year at the Hero World Challenge, but always look forward to being tournament host and spending the week with @HeroMotoCorp. Excited to welcome our exemptions @JustinThomas34, @JDayGolf and @NickDunlap62 into the field.

Will Tiger Woods play in the 2024 PNC Championship after missing out Hero World Challenge?

With Tiger Woods deciding not to play in the Hero World Challenge, questions about his participation in the 2024 PNC Championship have now risen. As of now Woods is yet to make an official announcement regarding this.

However, as per Golf Digest, the 48-year-old is committed to playing with his son, Charlie Woods in this event in December. In 2023, he once again took part in this event alongside Charlie as his daughter, Sam acted as their caddie.

According to the report, Woods could likely use a golf cart to play in this tournament, something which he has done before. It remains to be seen whether he uses this option or not.

In 2023, the father-son duo of Woods made their fourth consecutive appearance at this event. They would once again fall short in this competition despite shooting an impressive 11-under 61 in the second round.

This year the PNC Championship will take place from December 20 to 22. Two-time major Bernhard Langer and his son Jason won the event last time out and will be looking forward to defending their title at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando, Grande Lakes.
